Hot Air Balloons???

The balloon burners to the left and right of Shane and the boys

Yesterday we attempted to watch the balloon glow as part of the Cherry Blossom Festival activities. All week long I had been hoping that the weather would work out for us to go because the boys just love seeing pictures of hot air balloons so I wanted them to be able to see some real ones. During the day on Saturday the weather was beautiful as it was a nice warm day with the high around 80 but the forecast called for a chance of showers. Well, when it was time for us to leave to go out to the balloon glow some rain had come through, but it looked to be clearing some so we decided to chance it that we'd be able to see the balloons. Bad decision. We drove out to east Macon and got out of our vehicle and man was it cool and windy. Because of all the wind and wet ground the officials decided not to have the balloon glow but to rather only have the people who owned the balloons to burn their propane burners. We were so disappointed. We did see a few planes do a few tricks from the air show while we were there though, but even they were having trouble with all the wind and low clouds. Oh well, maybe next year.

Easter

On Easter we had a fabulous service at our church and then we went over to my aunt's house for a big family get-together. We always have a huge meal, then we have an Easter egg hunt for the kids. Dalton absolutely loved getting to wear his tie. He thinks he is the snazziest looking boy around when he puts on his tie. For some reason Colby loved dressing up too. He didn't even want to change into his play clothes for the egg hunt. We managed to only do 2 egg hunts this year. In the past we've been to 3 or 4 egg hunts. It was much less stressful this year.

Coloring the eggs

Some of the finished productThe UGA egg
Dippin' the eggs

One of our little Easter traditions has become coloring the Easter eggs on the day before Easter. The boys get so excited about doing it and have so much fun with it. All 4 of us get out on the front porch and participate. The boys just love dipping the eggs in the dyed water and having them come out another color. I think we only lost one egg this year while dying them due to dropping it too hard, and I believe it was actually my fault. Not bad.

Easter Egg Hunt

On your mark, get set...

Dalton had his Easter Egg Hunt at school today. Colby was allowed to participate as well. It was a cool morning but they both had a great time. I think they've already torn through all the candy that was inside all the eggs.

You Cannot Be Serious!

As I was perusing some of the local news I came across this article. The Macon Music minor league baseball team will be hosting a Spitzer night honoring Eliot Spitzer. They have invited him to come throw out the first pitch and have offered $1 off admission if your name is Eliot, Spitzer, or Kristen. They'll also give away a trip to New York and play Frank Sinatra music. I couldn't believe this was for real when I read this, but maybe it's their way of getting attention to get more people in the seats because they seem to be hurting financially. We'll see if this actually happens. I've gotta think there will be a bit of an uproar over this.

T- Ball

Dalton began his first journey into the world of organized sports Monday. Yes, he's playing T-ball this year. He had his first practice Monday. He is playing in the 3-4 year old division and he's probably one of the oldest on the team since he'll be 5 in May. He did really well at the practice in hitting and fielding the ball, but running the bases was another thing. We never really work on running bases at home so this was a foreign concept to him. When the kids were running around the bases at the end of the practice Dalton ran to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd just fine, but after hitting 3rd base he cut across and ran back over to 1st base skipping home plate. It was pretty funny watching him running the bases. He always loves to run and it doesn't matter where it is. He just laughs whenever he's running.

The Golf Pros

Yesterday, Shane and I were able to go out for our once a year golf outing. I think it has been almost a year since we have played. We used to play all the time, but now that we have kids we just don't have a chance to hit the links like we used to. We had a fun and relaxing time. It was a little cool at first, but it warmed up nicely. Golf can be so frustrating. I don't understand how I can hit a beautiful shot in one swing and in the next hit a shot so bad that I look like I've never played before in my life.

Beautiful Day

Well, we just had to get out and enjoy the wonderful weather today. Warm sun, nice breeze. I'm so pumped that the days are starting to get warmer. I know we can have some crazy weather days in March, but hopefully we'll start to see more warmer days than colder days. Yippee!! The boys wanted to ride the 4 wheeler today so I let them ride it just around the house. Usually I'll let them ride it down the road to feed Daisy and Billy, the donkey and the goat, that live nearby, but I was a little concerned about the battery situation on the 4 wheeler. Sure enough, they made it a couple of times around the house and began slowing down. They stopped and opened up the "hood" to check the battery. I actually let Colby try driving for the first time today. He did pretty good except for steering. I'm sure from now on they will be fighting over who's driving. Supposedly, tomorrow we will be having torrential downpours so I wanted the boys to be able to enjoy this wonderful weather today as much as possible.

Pop

It has been quite an exhausting week. We've been completely amazed, humbled, and encouraged by the outpouring of love toward the Self family. We're encouraged and thankful for all the prayers, cards, messages, food, phone calls, and visits that we've received during this time. We just couldn't believe all the people who came out to the visitation and actually stood in line waiting for over an hour and a half just to pay respects and visit with the family. It is still so hard to believe that Shane's dad is really gone. Sometimes I wake up and wonder if the events of the last few days really happened and that I could just stop by Shane's office and see his dad since they worked together. I know Shane is thankful for the time they had together just being able to work with his dad and see him everyday at work. I feel so sad for my boys that they'll never get to know Pop like we had hoped they would, and I'm sad for all the experiences they'll never get to have with him. Shane and his dad had been planning on taking Dalton fishing this spring in the boat. He so adored his grandkids. We praise God for his life and are confident that he now lives with Jesus because of the relationship that he had with Jesus Christ.
