Potty Training 101

Last week I began potty training with Colby. He's about 2 1/2 years old now, and I had put it off til the weather warmed up a bit so it would be easier to pull shorts on and off. I dreaded starting the process with him because of how you just have to be on top of it all the time. The thought of my house smelling like urine didn't thrill me either. Anyway, Dalton had spring break all last week so I figured it would be a good time since I would be home more throughout the day. The first day, Monday, didn't go very well. I guess if you've had to wear diapers for the first 2 1/2 years of your life it would be pretty traumatic to switch to a completely different way of doing things. My method is the bribery method with candy being my primary bribe of choice peppered with lots and lots of praise. He received candy and praise just for sitting on the potty or standing at it. We never had any success on Monday though. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday I didn't even try with him very much because of various places we had to go. Friday was quite a different story though. Something apparently clicked in his little body because he would actually look for me throughout the house to come and tell me that he had to go potty!! Amazing! He's been doing so great with it! I think he's had just one accident since Friday. I'm so pumped about how well he has done with it so far. After Colby pee-pees on the potty he wells up with pride and exclaims, "I-I-I-I-I-I...DID IT!!!!!!!"
